My 2016 Anime Viewing List

I didn't watch as many anime in 2016 as I did in years past. I've gotten pretty vicious about avoiding new shows that appear to be garbage from their previews, official web sites, and set-up synopses. And I didn't find any cases this year where reviews from other people convinced me that I ought to change my mind and give a try to dubious prospects. Never-the-less, I still ended up watching or trying out 72 new anime series, movies and OAVs in 2016. As a bonus I had time to re-watch some old favourites as well as catch up on a bunch of anime movies that have been collecting unwatched on my shelves for several years. So here are the anime series, movies and OAVs that I watched or tried out in 2016, ranked in order of how much I enjoyed them with my usual A through F ratings. There aren't any “Fs” this year, probably because I avoided so many series that appeared to have no potential to me. And, as usual, the ratings reflect my personal taste, so please don't get too bent out of shape if I loved something that you hated or I hated something that you loved. A+ : “Mob Psycho 100”, “Drifters” A : “Meitantei Conan”, Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu”, “The Wind Rises”, “Natsume Yuujinchou Go”, “Evangelion: 1.11”, “Evangelion: 2.22”, “Evangelion: 3.33” A- : “One Piece”, “Sushi Police”, “Concrete Revolutio 2” B+ : “Gate Season 2”, “Tale of the Princess Kaguya”, “One Punch Man BD OAVs”, “Ushiro to Tora 2nd Season”, “Sailor Moon Season 3”, “Amaama to Inazuma”, “Saiki Kusuo no Psi-nan” B : “Folktales from Japan”, “Lupin III (2015), “Ojisan to Marshmallow”, “Kuma Miko”, “When Marnie Was There” B- : “Dagashi Kashi”, “Kono Subarashi Sekai ni Shukufuku o”, “Nejimaki Seirei Senki” Please note: I dropped the shows below before finishing, except for those I have marked “complete” C+ : “Boku dake ga Inai Machi”, “Fukigen na Mononokean” (complete), “Natsume Yuujinchou Go – Sensei Special”(complete) C : “Musaigen no Phantom World”, “Re:Zero”, “Joker Game”, “Sousei no Onmyouji”, “Bungou Stray Dogs”, “Koutetsu no Kabaneri”, “Flying Witch”, “Qualidea Code”, “Shuumatsu no Izetta”, “Occultic: Nine”, “Norn9”, “Reikenzan: Hoshikuzu-tachi no Utage”, “Bubuki Buranki”, “Dimension W”, “Pom Poko” (complete), “Space Patrol Luluco”, “Boku no Hero Acedemia”, “Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja nai to Omotta?”, “Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge”, “Kuromukuro”, “Berserk”, “New Game”, “Kiitarou Shounen no Youkai Enikki”, “Luger Code 1951”(complete) C- : “Active Raid”, “Divine Gate”, “Hai no Gensou no Grimgar”, “Mayoiga”, “Endride”, “Onigiri”, “Kiznaiver”, “Big Order”, “Taboo Tatoo”, “Time Travel Shoujo”, “Hitori no Shita: The Outcast”, “Time Boken 24”, “Soul Buster”, “Nanbaka” D : “Luck & Logic”, “Ajin”, “Ace Attorney”, “Ozmafia”

Anime movies review

These movies are probably what most people watched. I watched popular movies and this is my opinion (don't get mad. none of these are in order) 1. 5 centimeters per second I watched the movie and it wasn't as good as how i heard it. it was okay and i would rate it a 6.5 or 7 out of 10. i didn't really enjoy it. it just got very boring. 2. Totoro My favorite childhood movie. a movie full of cuteness. i liked it a lot but it isn't the best movie i have ever watched. not a lot of romance and if i had to rate it, it would a 8 out of 10. 3. Hotarubi no mori e A cute yet painful love story of a highschool boy spirit and a girl who hangs out with him in the summer. its a short 40 something minutes but it was worth it. i really liked this movie and i highly recommend it to anyone for me its a 9 out of 10. 4. Spirited away this is one of my favorite ghibli studios movie and i liked it. the movie is kind of over 2 hours and its a good one. my sister and i enjoyed it though i was kind of disappointed about the ending, it was still pretty good it's a 8.5 out of 10 for me. 5. Kimi no na wa this movie was a huge hit in 2016. kimi no na wa or your name is. i love this movie. i do have to admit it is my number one favorite movie so far. not only does it have comedy but another painful love story (i sound like a psychopath saying how i like heartbreaking romance) my sister and i couldn't stop crying and we were upset when the movie ended. we wish for an anime adaption but i doubt there will be one. this is my most highly recommended movie so try watching it if you didn't! i would rate this a 10 out of 10. 6. Zutto Mae kara Suki deshita.: Kokuhaku Jikkou Iinkai for those who are a fan of honeyworks or their songs (i'm a huge fan. made suki kirai, beginning's goodbye, magic kaitou 1412 op 2, vocaloid sings their songs. very good! try listening to them.) and those who are a fan of yato and yukine's voice actor (noragami) asuna's voice actress (sao) and more famous seiyuus, this movie is perfect for you. not only does it have a good plot, but it has romance and its a pretty innocent type of love. i would rate this a 8.9 out of 10 7. wolf children a sibling relationship mother going through hardships some romance and of course touching parts. this is probably the first anime movie i have cried so much in so emotional people, get the tissues ready. i would rate this a 9 out of 10. movies i plan on watching: koe no katachi Suki ni Naru Sono Shunkan wo.: Kokuhaku Jikkou Iinkai toki wo kakeru shoujo

I looked through MAL's Seasonal list and wrote down the titles I thought would be interesting, then challenged myself to watch the 1st episode of all the titles available to me--pretty much whatever availability Crunchyroll had for me. Here are my short thoughts on the ones I stuck with: Descending Stories: Shouwa Genroku Rakugo - I'm soo happy this is back!!! I'm not ready for what I think the story is set to play out by! ACCA: 13-ku Kansatsu - Slow but steady. Really like the character animation design. Sanji Jean is a badass, so cool and collected. Chaos;Child - Okay what WHAT WHAT did I just watch?? I'm not used to seeing gore, it's a little traumatizing for me.. yet I still find this interesting. Do I have to watch Ch- Demi-chan wa Kataritai - This one is probably the most charming out of the series I decided to continue watching. Masamune-kun no Revenge - This one probably has the.. least charming characters. Though, doesn't mean I find it less entertaining. :) Piace: Watashi no Italian - Food? Okay. x)

The best anime period...and the best candidate for a gateway anime for beginners or those foreign to anime entirely.

Hi, I'm back! And I'm rambling about anime again. My list had some there were some pretty amazing ones from last year, but Casshern Sins still stands above every other anime and is truly the most extraordinary series to ever exist. I'd say it is a definite gateway anime for the simple fact that nothing else hits harder like it. From the beginning to the end, whether it is a fight, drama build-up, or even just a passing character's monologue, the top of the line animation, score, backgrounds, and other visuals fit every scene presented in the storyline. Even if the story moves at one pace, the episodes all have a theme to present and a lesson to teach. Each episode is a challenge for every character's complexity as well, but the biggest reason why Casshern Sins is still a masterpiece in my eyes is all thanks to the brilliant way the anime twists and turns the concepts of life and morality. Robots dominate the earth and believed themselves to be superior and immortal. Once their world is turned upside down, and they begin to lose their once-impervious lives, the robots show sorrow, sadness, prejudice surprisingly, and fear. This anime goes above and beyond by juxtaposing humanity and machine. In Casshern Sins, unlike mankind, machine has no savior, yet at the same time, without their superior traits and power, robots judge and act no different from us humans. And all of it is shown in gritty detail. If I needed a better reason to like Casshern Sins, it is perhaps the perfect anime for a person who has never seen anime before and has preconceived notions of the medium and for newcomers to anime as well. Sure, everyone likes to catch onto what's new or trendy or popular, but newcomers especially need to realize that anime is not about ecchi, fanservice, short series that do little justice to the original manga and rasengans. It's not all only for children either. Anime tell stories, show passion through characters, excite natural feelings and challenge what is thought as normal or just. At the very least, that's what a GOOD anime does. Casshern Sins has all of that and more along with the best visuals and imagery to ever exist. This is one for beginners, no doubt about it, since it excels on every level and sets the bar high. After seeing Casshern Sins, that outdated stereotype of anime being only for kids will die in anyone's mind because of the hard-hitting emotional impact that's plastered throughout all the episodes. For anyone curious about anime at all, start here. For newcomers, someday, catch up with this anime. It should be a crime to miss out on Casshern Sins.

My Anime of 2016 Roundup

Seeing all of these awards and lists flying around I thought I would make my own rankings based off all the anime I watched that aired in 2016. Be aware there might be some minor spoilers but nothing to major. I will also leave my MAL score after each anime entry. My ranking, my opinion. Feel free to make your own if you wish. Best Winter 2016 Anime 1. Ajin - Unexpected I know but honestly the CGI style just fits and the story is great. Plus the show has one of the best villains this year. (9) 2. Grimgar - While the concept isn't original the way the show tries to take a realistic approach to the transported to a fantasy world genre definitely is. (8) 3. Konosuba - Similar to Grimgar this show innovates on the transported to a fantasy world genre in a pretty funny and troll way. I had a great time with it. (8) 4. Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu - A very rich and informative anime about a special form of Japanese theater. (8) Best Spring 2016 Anime 1. ReZero - This show was just so much fun to watch. I always anticipated the next episode and it was never predictable. Disagree if you wish but characters with personal flaws like Subaru are way more interesting to watch than characters who are perfect. (10) 2. Boku no Hero Academia - Bones does it again. This show was so inspiring and got my blood pumping during major fights. Plus Ultra! (9) 3. Kiznaiver - Studio Trigger can take any show in turn the insanity up to 11. This anime explores the idea of have people being linked together so that they can feel each others pain. The results are quite interesting. (8) 4. Sakamoto Desu Ga? - I know I said earlier that flawed characters are way more interesting to watch than perfect characters but this show manages to make an exception to that. Sakamoto is so cool and swag in every scenario normal or crazy that it is just funny. (8) Best Summer 2016 Anime 1. Mob Psycho 100 - This show has the same charm as One Punch Man with a much better story and more interesting ideas. The fights were great and the art and animation was beautiful. (9) 2. 91 Days - This is a classic Shakespearean style revenge story in a gangster anime form. This show is not quite as predictable as most people think it is and even if it was the way events unfold is well worth watching anyway. (9) 3. Tales of Zestiria the X - You can always count on Ufotable to make the best looking shows. This anime based of a rpg feels just like an rpg and it is a great nostalgic feeling. (8) 4. Danganronpa 3 - While this anime has a high barrier of entry requiring at least watching the first 2 games in the series and knowledge on the Ultra Despair Girls concept it was a great way to end off the Hopes Peak story line. Having 2 different anime in different timelines playing off of each other was a very clever presentation strategy. (8) Best Fall 2016 Anime 1. 3gatsu no Lion - This anime surprised me so much. Rei is probably the most relatable anime character personality wise to myself. His struggles and happy moments hit me so close to home that I legit let some tears loose. Most feels I have had all year. (10) 2. Yuri on Ice - This show also surprised me. I don't care about ice skating at all and this show had characters and a story that made me care. This anime is bold and you can tell a lot of work went into it. To me it paid off. (9) 3. Flip Flappers - It would be a big mistake to overlook this show. This show is not only one of the most beautiful looking shows of the year but it also had the most blissful wonder. Every episode was a joy just to see where Cocona and Papika were going to end up and how they were going to overcome the challenges involved. (9) 4. Drifters - The Hellsing style is back. The most badass characters ever created in anime with a classic unique art style just for the comedy moments. No shortage of carnage either plus the way historical figures are divided in this show is so bold and interesting that another season of this show cannot come soon enough. (9) Best Season of Anime 1. Fall - Just based on pure number of top tier shows plus the variety of those shows the last season of the year was definitely the best. 3gatsu no Lion for drama/slice of life, Yuri on Ice for sports, Flip Flappers for adventure, and Drifters for action. There is something for everyone in the Fall season. 2. Summer - It was a close call but with ReZero continuing into Summer and having its best moments during that time it adds to the very strong entries of Mob Psycho 100 and 91 Days. 3. Spring - Just a little lacking compared to Summer but still strong with the start of ReZero and Boku no Hero Academia showing it's muscle. 4. Winter - This season had a strong start but a lot of the shows in this season really flubbed their endings including Erased and Grimgar which turned them from potential 9s to 8s. The only anime to stand up for this season was Ajin but it was only the first half of the show. Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu and Konosuba were really good shows but I didn't feel they were on the level of the shows I gave 9 scores to. More to come at another time.

Anime Winter Season opinion

I really wanted to share my opinion about the winter season especially because I started all the anime that aired lol. First of all, I want to say that this is the first time when I did something like that. In the previous seasons, I don't know if I started more than 10 animes that were airing because I was really dissapointed about them. Especially because of the plot and the boring action. I don't start to watch anime for very long, just a year, but I watched enough animes to know what makes them good and what I appreciate about an anime. For me, the most important things that makes an anime good, are the plot, the action that is chronological good placed, and the grahpics. I watched a lot of animes that had good graphics and a good plot, but the action was really random and fast and I stopped watching them. So, back of what I wanted to say from the start, is that the winter season is far away from what I expected. In a good way, of course. Almost all anime that are airing this winter are really good and worth to watch. It was a big surprise for me to see this and I was glad that I will have what to watch this winter. Now, I will share my opinions about each anime that I started to watch, for this winter season. I will not talk about them in the order that aired. 1. ACCA: 13-ku Kansatsu-ka I don't know what to tell specifically about this anime, because is really different from what i watched until now. I will have to wait and see how the action will go and if it will be good. I just have to say that the graphic is ok, it's not boring to watch and it's not similar to other animes. The voice actors are good, and the plot seems interesting. 2.Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto Fujouou-hen First of all, I need to say that I am an Ao no Exorcist fan and I waited really hard for the 2nd season. I was so excited when it aired. The first episode met my expectation and I have to say that I noticed that good animes make me to not feel the time passing. I mean, I really don't notice where the 24 minutes went after finishing the episode. The action was really good and I want to tell you not to start this anime if you didn't seen the 1st season. Of course, I am not in the position to tell you that, but I think you will not understand at all what will happen in the serial if you didn't see Ao No Exorcist 1st season. 3.ChaoS; Child Okay, so, this was really something and I really want to tell that: This is worth to watch. It's really captivating and mysterious. I enjoyed the most this 1st episode especially because I am the type who likes gore and mysterious animes. I didn't get at all what will be about because I was so captivated and I paid attention for the plot to much. If you are the type who likes gore, action, mystery and blood I reccomend you this. 4. Hand Shakers I need to tell you that this was the most weird anime that I ever watched. It's pretty bad from what I expected when I saw the cover. It's not something amazing. What I didn't like was the fast action and the fact that I din't get at all what it will be about. The graphics are good and good realised. I don't recommed this anime at all. 5. Kuzu no Honkai When I started the 1st episode I was like ,,Oh, another shoujo anime with the cliche romance story.,, but I was so surprised that I changed immediately my mind. Despite the title, the story is amazing: about a girl who loves her homeroom teacher, a boy who loves his tutor who started to work in his highschool. The girl and the boy started to go out as replacement for the persons they love. I have big expectations from this anime. 6. Masamune-kun no Revenge It's funny and ok, and I was glad that it wasn't boring like other animes. The graphics are similar to other animes but it has some sparkle that attracted me. I reccomend it. 7. Spiritpact Being a crazy fujoshi, when I saw the ,,Shounen Ai,, tag I was like ,,Omfg, omfg, omfg,, and I went fast to see the 1st episode. I enjoyed it and I reccomend it to all the fujoshi/ fudashi. It has an interesting plot and nice graphics. I need to stop here because my hands are tired. About the other animes, I skiped them because I didn't see the point in talking about them. Are pretty and funny and it's ok to watch them. I hope this shit that I wrote above is ok, because is my first time writing something like that and my english isn't really good. I hope you will not mind my grammar mistakes! ^0^
