How I would change Sword Art Online / New IP
I want to start off with the admission that I am not a Screenwriter and write fiction at a fanfiction level on my best days. These are just my opinions which I feel obligated to share because I truly believe that SAO isn’t “that” bad, and with a few minor fixes, it would be a tab better. In the first section, I will list very specific things that I would change to make things more believable or flow better. Below that, I will also share what how I would have used the concept of players trapped in VR to make my own show. Read at your own risk, its probably worse than SAO.
“Soft” Fixes: these are some minor things that I would have done to SAO that I do not think are major gamechangers and would still fix many of the problems. Expect Spoilers.:
1. Character Models: As I will go into depth in the second half of this, what I see as a bit of a mistake on the animator’s part is that they went into the first episode and made all the players look like their real world counterparts. While this did a really good job of the “You’re not 17!” joke, I think this was a real mistake on their part for 3 reason:
1. They made the girls way too attractive. Yes, I am aware that women and girls play videogames, I have one in my raid team on Destiny. Yes, I am aware that there are pretty girls who like to play videogames as well, but just like their male counterparts, these beautiful girl gamers are the exception, not the rule. I had no problem with Asuna as the waifu for 14 year olds, just like how I was actually fine with the girls in Alfheim having massive fairy tits and acting slutty, because Videogames are for ESCAPISM. No matter what sex you are, in the online world with anonymity people do and say things that they would never consider repeating in real life. So, to me, making them show their “Real” selves was a step in the wrong direction because they made all of the female characters unrealistic to the game. IF they had kept the avatars they way they were, it would have been much more believable to me that these were videogame avatars.
2. Its inconsistent. It is understandable that the final boss in SAO, being the director and having free reign over the game would use the in game assets and break his own rules to hide his identity, but in regards to other characters in the game, like some members of the Knights of the Blood Oath and who I think were called The Iron Legion, half of these people look like they’re 40 and 50 years old. Asuna’s Bodyguard in particular looks like (ironically) a stock character in an anime and not a person playing a videogame. The big soldier guys (Corvax’s men) look nothing like Klein, Kirito, The Black guy (can’t recall his name), which clashes with the idea that they are supposedly real players. I doubt that they’re stats are the cause of their appearance, because Kirito apparently has maxed out strength and looks like he still needs to go eat a sandwich. The only realistic approach I have to this is that all of those background soldiers in the game are actually just Mercenary NPC’s and not real players, hence the uniform appearance and odd model.
3. It ruins reveals and character traits. So one thing that I think was really wasted about SAO was disguising the avatars and the characters. Yes, for the first half of the show we are stuck in Sword Art Online, but still, I think that using that make certain character traits and accessories specific to the character would help sell the whole “double life” theme the show started with, having what is virtual and real being blended in and almost indistinguishable from each other.
Take Klien for example, all they really needed was his bandana on his avatar, and as soon as we saw him in the real world with his bandana we would have been able to immediately recognize who he was in the real world. Many people will voluntarily make their avatars reflect their real life selves, but I think there is more to be learned from who they want to be and what they project and how it conflicts with reality that is interesting in this type of a show.
I also want to mention, though, that if I recall correctly, Elizibet the Blacksmith had pink hair ingame but brown in reality, so I suppose they decided to make a small character trait even if it was for just one person.
2. The Player revive item:
One of the biggest things that I think pissed off a lot of people was the final fight with the developer and how Kirito somehow manages to break the game rules to win. I agree, it doesn’t make sense, but what really pissed me off about that scene was how easy it would have been to fix.
In the last episode in Sword Art Online, Kirito fights with the game developer in a duel to the death, if he wins, he will be able to save everyone in the game on only floor 75. While everyone is paralyzed in the fight, Asuna manages to get to her feet and blocks a blow, killing herself. Kirito then takes a fatal hit and dies, only to reappear a few seconds later to kill the developer.
Why is this scene bullshit?
Simple: games, from Tag to Call of Duty, are in essence a set of rules. Rules on how to win, rules on how to lose, and rules on how to play. Rules set the boundaries of player agency in games; it shows us the perimeter of how far we can go and how exactly we can exploit said rules to our advantage. In SAO, Kirito is able to simply break rules at a whim that he should not be able to. In something like Gurren Lagann, where the goal is to try to achieve the impossible, this makes sense, in SAO, it doesn’t. The show could, and I will get into details on that below, have shown us how Kirito was able to break the rules or find a work around to save the day, but it didn’t give us a solid reason even though it almost lays out the groundwork to fit this deus ex Machina. So here’s my solution.
Early on in the show, Kirito takes place in a public event on Christmas with the hope to find a rare special item that is fabled to revive dead players, but the catch that he soon learns is that it must be used within 10 seconds of death. Disheartened, Kirito discards the item and gives it to Klein.
What I would have done differently was to have Kirito keep the item, and in the fight with the Developer, have Asuna use herself as a shield to block the blow, seemingly killing her, but since the Developer promised Kirito he would make it impossible for Asuna to die, make her regenerate as an immortal object.
Next, as she is respawning without her weapons, have Kirito go and take his fatal strike, but as his character explodes into shards, have his name still appear in game as he uses the revive item to respawn with a few seconds of invulnerability and full health, just enough to take out the developer and win the duel.
See? Kirito doesn’t break any of the rules and Asuna, although seemingly dead was caught in a technicality where she didn’t register as a perishable asset.
3. Kirito vs. Fairy King.
In the finale of the Alfheim Online arc, Kirito is locked into a battle with the Fairy King over his hostage, Asuna. The King uses his admin privileges to induce statuses such as paralysis and turns off the pain dampeners of the game as he tortures Kirito and rapes Asuna. Kirito, realizing Alfheim runs off of SAO assets and engine, uses the Developer’s logins to revoke admin privileges to the Fairy King and whoops his ass.
Why is this shit? Because this comes out of fucking nowhere. Later, we do see the ghost of the developer in game as he gives Kirito his legacy, but this is after Kirito happens to shout the Developer’s username and says some other random things to gain privileges. This is contrived, comes out of nowhere and would be too easy to happen on accident by another player. So how would I fix it?
As Kirito enters Alfheim Online, he checks his inventory to see if UI is still alive. She is, and after they talk Kirito goes through and sees that he still has most of his gear from SAO, except that the majority of it is incompatible with this game so he deletes his inventory.
Instead let’s say that Kirito decides not to delete his inventory, saying that he is having a hard time letting go of the excess gear and wants to keep it for sentimental reasons. When he is fighting with the Fairy King, why wouldn’t he access his inventory while he is being tortured looking for a way to save the day. While the Rapey King is busy with Asuna, Kirito manages to come across a new and unknown item lying in his inventory. He opens it and sees that it is either an object, or simply a text note from The Developer, listing off his password and User ID to override the system. From there, Kirito can do something, either say the login or use the item to accept override privileges, and from there whoop the shit out of the Fairy King.
4. Player Killing System
So, this is a minor gripe, which will also be present in my original idea below, but I wanted to put it here as well. Currently, in SAO, if a player kills another outside of a duel their tag turns orange. We hardly see this, but the idea is that the orange tag will stay on a player for half an hour after they kill another player. The orange is mainly for players who kill in self defense, but if the player were to kill more within that time or a set amount, I can’t recall, their name will permanently turn red, making them as a player killer permanently. If a guild does this, then their guild is known as an “Orange Guild”.
Why is this bullshit? Because no matter the means, intentional murder, accident, self defense, whatever, taking a life is a major thing. The orange system is there just so that Kirito can do dirty work but still be looked on as a pure hero. That’s bullshit.
In my opinion, if a player were to kill another, they should immediately and permanently have it marked on them by some means. Just like how they will have to harbor their own actions for the rest of their days, this too should be a sign for all to see. This idea could be expanded, but the thing about it is that this new system isn’t a warning, but instead it’s a story to be told. For him to explain to everyone of how he was marked and win their trust back.
In my idea, I would personally force anyone who kills another player to have to have a red sash or armband fastened to the outside of their submissive arm. They can try to conceal it, but they can never hide it.

I may add the Original Idea segment later, right now I am just too busy.

Genius idea 2
Why Internet? Why?
Of all the prolific subjects mankind has created and discussed throughout the years, Art, history, science, philosophy, none have had an intense and passionate online presence as anime. For every video on art criticism, there is dozens of anime criticisms. For every rant on why X historical thesis sucks, there are dozens of rants on why anime sucks.
It's disgusting and I have lost faith in humanity while becoming a fan of anime. Before, I was minding my own business, painting, listening to music, reading magazine. Nobody seemed to share the same love. Sure, you had people posting comments in the online versions but who cares. It was anonymous and people didn't take it seriously. I wish people did. But with anime, there are people with E-penises thinking how you should act and watch anime. And, they believe their own bullshit. I wish other forums like wet canvas or Reddit had more people that took history or art way too seriously. Even if I don't agree with it, it makes you feel something: rage, happiness. These other discussion on other subjects is all
"Oh..... Okay"
That's nice
Yeah. I agree .
I wish the historical debate like United States sucks would be as prolific as Sword art online sucks. I wish people would make profiles so I could see what opinions and literature they have read to come to that opinion.
Here is a new idea. Instead of my anime list, how about my, " stuff I read list". It could be books, magazines, tv shows, anything you have consumed. There would be forum to talk about. There would be reviews of books, articles, and magazines. It would be like an armateur version of google scholar .
This article from The Daily Herald sucks. What a hack job of an author? They can't produce anything coherent. Then some else defends it. Wouldn't that be fun to read?

Lazy
I still haven't finished Gurren Laggan. I've watched the show till half way but I just can't get myself to finish it. It's already been like four years since I saw the first episode so I don't even remember much from the show. And that means that if I actually wanted to finish it and enjoy the show in its' entiredy, I'd have to rewatch it from the beginning and those who have seen this show will know why I don't wanna rewatch it. You know, no spoilers and all but I don't wanna cry again.

Dance with Devils
Just finished "Dance with Devils" and gave it a 7/10. I love it, but I dislike the random singing and the ending. First, I love their voices, but why do they have to sing in every episode? Including during almost every intense fight scene. Second, the ending (I won't spoil much) just left me with a bad taste in my mouth. It's like a, ". . . THAT'S IT?!" It was like when Sword Art Online tried to be a harem. Dance with Devils ends with a "meh" reverse harem.
