summer.
i took a walk around my neighborhood today.
the temperature was so nice and warm. it was amazing!
there's a botanical garden not too far from me so i spent some time there. they take such good care of the plants there. it's gorgeous. since summer is lily season they had so many of them. they also had quite a lot of peacock orchids which are my favorite flower.
there's a lake about a 5 minutes walk away. there were quite a few people there which was nice. i struck up a conversation with a sweet little girl who liked the cattails. she was adorable!
today has been a great day so far and there's still about 10 hours left of it. i feel happier than I have in years.

[Anime] Princess Nine: Kisaragi Joshikou Yakyuubu
У меня непростые отношения со спортивными аниме. Обычно в начале знакомства с такими сериалами между мной и экраном возникает стена неполного доверия, которую не так просто разрушить. Вот как-то абсолютно не получается слиться душой с этими безумно целеустремлёнными молодыми людьми, для которых той или иной вид спорта занимает настолько важное место в жизни, что он регулярно вызывает сильнейшие переживания и слёзы, или наоборот - чрезмерные радость и восторг. Трудно их понять.
Как можно догадаться, сам я от спорта очень далёк. Хотя, казалось бы, это вовсе не должно быть препятствием. Ведь по идее я точно так же далёк от, там, не знаю, деятельности полицейских или космонавтов каких-нибудь, тайтлы про которых никакого подобного отторжения никогда не вызывали? Нет, это не совсем правда. Работу полицейского легко в уме быстро идеализировать, всё же дело-то исключительной важности. Космонавтов, может, посложнее (напрашиваются вопросы морали, мол, не рано ли такими около-фантастическими исследованиями заниматься когда пол-планеты всё ещё голодает?), но они тоже ребята, безусловно, романтичные.
А вот спортсмены... Быстрее, выше, сильнее... Всех победить, взять вершину... Стать самым-самым в какой-то игре... Ну... молодцы наверно, и всё-таки, ну зачем вам это всё, а? Очень часто ответ так и не удаётся найти, и к сожалению относится это и к Princess Nine. Какие-то проблески "духа" может и были, но так и не сложились ни в один вау-момент. За всем, связанным с тренировками и матчами, я следил несколько безучастно, влиться не вышло. А остального как-то особо и не было. Ну как: было, но обязательно так или иначе влияло на состояние той или иной участницы команды, и упор всегда делался именно на то, как из-за этого у команды были проблемы и какая драма это была для девушки, что она не могла наслаждаться бейсболом как прежде.
Мимо меня в общем пролетело. Хотя я и оценил любопытный серьёзный стиль (юмора как будто совершенно нет там, где он, казалось бы, должен быть: даже из явно комичных ситуаций само "хи-хи" не выдавливается), удачнейшим образом подкреплённый музыкой в исполнении Варшавского симфонического оркестра. Эти композиции здорово добавляют внушительности и торжественности самым типичным анимешным сценкам и поворотам, плюс создают интересную иллюзию того, словно на самом деле произведение выходил гораздо раньше, где-то во времена Ace wo Nerae. Да, саундтрек для меня стал здесь безусловно лучшим элементом. Также понравилось, что на сбор всей команды ушло чуть ли не десять серий: приятно было видеть, как она неспешно строилась, из этого получилась хорошая динамика. Ну и вообще девочки довольно классные тут все. Текст вышел в основном негативный, но на самом деле благодаря разнообразным и милым девочкам я нигде особо не скучал кроме финала, когда окончательно стало ясно, что всё-таки "не моё", хотя и качественное вроде. Только это... Не надо больше такого количества споров типа "победите - ваша взяла, а нет - лишитесь всего", ладно? Уже во второй раз это гораздо менее круто, чем в первый. А вот то, что сериал завершился поражением - найс.

ISML Ruby Period Round Two - Entry 681
I haven't missed a vote so far this season. But, I don't always post my votes in the blog or in the forum. Anyway...only one of my favorites is in the top 16. If she stays there Rikka will make it to the final round. The other two favorites, Holo and Yuki Nagato are too far back to move up.
I only vote for characters that I have seen, so many of new characters are unknown. I did watch Amagi Brilliant Park because of the ISML voting. I kept seeing several girls from that anime and was curious. I enjoyed the anime. I watched it over two weekends.

School Days...
Yes, I'm going there
So, I finished watching School Days a couple of days ago... I'd avoided watching it until this late for glaringly obvious reasons, and despite knowing this, it's still put me off leaving the house since I saw it. Naturally, after the ending of the final episode, I lay face down on my bed for several hours due to the drainingly depressing nature of the anime; but is it really as bad as it seems? I mean, naturally, it has the reputation for being the worst anime in existence for a reason. The entire series is fuelled by hate, jealousy, deception and manipulation, and is not necessarily 'entertaining' to watch, especially if you naively anticipated everything working out towards a happy ending with Makoto learning his lesson in a less shocking and far-fetched way. Another weak point for me, personally, was the anime's music; it was very narrow and unilateral, and speaking as a musician I found it quite irritating towards the end of the series.
However, School Days in my opinion does have some merits. As an experiment, try watching the first episode of School Days, and follow immediately by watching the final episode. The first thing you're likely to notice is the vast difference between the characters that ensues. If watching the series chronologically, there is a tendency to forget the way the characters were in the beginning due to the anger, frustration and hatred directed at them as the series progresses. For the characters to go under such a vast transformation that it can only really be truly appreciated in retrospect, and the difference we have in attitude towards each of the characters changing so hugely is very effective, and so the series should be given some merit in the way that was crafted.
Another way in which the series does in fact shine is with the way the characters internally interact with one another, and how this changes in each episode. There is a very gradual progression from order to chaos, and watching the anime without context, one might expect it to be a classic, light-hearted slice-of-life high school anime. However, the way the series progresses and the way this prompts each of the characters to interact differently with one another is somewhat impressive.
The last thing I'd like to say regarding School Days is the fact that at the end of each and every episode, I found myself saying "Awww, sheeeit" at my computer screen with a grin of anticipation on my face. Whether that's just me being sadistic, or the general consensus of the anime's viewership, I think it's an impressive feat to accomplish this at the end of every single episode.
I'm not the hugest anime fan in the world, I watch it quite casually, and maybe I'm just being incredibly shallow in the way I viewed this anime. But, I guess that's just me. Either way, I gave it a 6 on my anime list, mostly because of the features I have discussed above somewhat redeeming the series for what it is.
