I just watched the first episode of the Rozen Maiden “Reboot” and I'm not sure what to think about it. Apparently, it is an adaptation of the later manga series, but the first episode gave a very compressed summary of much of what was in the first anime series. So we got to hear yet another generic Ali Project opening song, got to very quickly meet all of the dolls and main characters, and then got a preview that suggests that we will get a very big time skip in the next episode.
I liked the first Rozen Maiden series but the second series left me a bit cold. Now I've got to wonder if the re-cap approach in the first episode of the new series was really the best way to start. Everything felt too rushed and there was no opportunity to establish any atmosphere. I don't know what a viewer who hasn't seen the earlier series would make of this. (And it makes no sense to suggest that the new series is being aimed solely at manga readers.)
So I'll stick around for another episode or two but for now I am getting the feeling that RM Reboot could end up being a disappointment.
