Episode 36: Nipah Nano Desu
: So, what are we doing in Wisconsin, we only just got back from Britain
Actually, given my release schedule, it has probably been at least two weeks since then. We’re visiting an assistant of a friend, it’s about time I blogged them.
: The entity referred to as Ririchiyo Shirakiin has already been blogged, and you are as of yet unfamiliar with the home universe of Ekaterina Kurae.
That’s because I’m blogging Topaz’s other assistant. Don’t think I forgot about her.

Hair: Rika has blue hair that reaches about to her mid-back in a hime cut which looks very good on her and matches her eyes very well as described below.
Score: 10/10
Eyes: Rika’s eyes are a dark purple that matches perfectly with her hair.

Body: Rika is not a character I perv on, as I am not a Zettai… I mean lolicon…

That means this section won’t be analyzed like some other characters or score as highly. Still, I can’t deny that she is very cute with her small frame, and this scores OK here. Sadly, she also shows breast envy which is another problem.
Score: 6/10
Butt: Rika has the occasional ass shot, most notably an incident where she uses her ass to clean a window in the Kira OVA. That being, I do not perv on Rika and did not care much for any of the gag OVAs, so her score is limited by this.
Score: 5.5/10
Age: Rika is physically 10 or 11, however, because of her repeating timelines, she is mentally at least 110. That being said, I unlike some other lolihags, perhaps because of how I got to know her, I still see Rika as a child. Sure she’s cute, but she’s really not ideal for my tastes. Sorry, Rika.
Also, she was born on August 21st.

Clothing: Rika has a good collection of outfits, the most well known her most well-known being her white and black school uniform, light green summer dress, and her miko outfit. She also appears in a gym uniform, multiple casual outfits, a swimsuit, a cat costume, a maid costume, a yukata, and a magical girl costume.
Score: 8/10
Personality: Rika scores very highly here. On the surface, she has a personality fitting with her child-like exterior, with her cheerful demeanor and kind personality, as well as her habit of using cute sounds or phrases at the end of her sentences, most notably “nipah”, “mii”, and “nano desu”. Rika also, however, had a second secret personality, a result of her having spent over 100 years repeating her life, only to die and restart over again. This older Rika is much more serious and sometimes has a darker outlook on life. Part of Rika’s secret mature personality is that she enjoys eating spicy foods and even drinking alcohol, much to the dislike of Hanyuu
Oh yeah, she is, for most of the series, the only one who can see Hanyuu, the ghost of one of Rika’s ancestors, but has a loli appearance like Rika. Hanyuu guides Rika from one reincarnation to the next. As such, Rika is Hanyuu’s only friend. Hanyuu’s senses are linked with Rika’s, something Rika takes advantage of, drinking alcohol, which Hanyuu dislikes, when Hanyuu annoys her.

Oh, Hi Hanyuu, and of course, you are an important part of Rika’s story after all.

Overall, Rika, with her dual personality makes her an interesting and likeable character and thus scores top marks here.
Score: 10/10
Libido: Rika doesn’t show much of this, which makes sense with her being only ten years old physically. She is also not a character I ship, though Keiichi sometimes shows lolicon tendencies, albeit mostly as a gag, and is also sometimes shipped by fans with Hanyuu or Satoko. Sadly, she also shows breast envy towards some of the older girls.
Score: 5/10
: Onii-sama taught me why I shouldn’t concern myself with that.
Reception: In terms of MAL likes, Rika has over 4500 favorites, the second best in her series after Rena, and has over 4500 images on Pixiv as well, coincidentally. Rika also is a major character and the main character of some arcs, but does not crowd out the others. Overall, she scores perfectly here.
Score: 10/10
Voice: Rika is voice by Yukari Tamura, who does an excellent job with both her outer “cute” side, including her catch phrases like “Nipah” and “Nano desu”, as well as her inner “serious” voice that she rarely shows.

Score Definitions
TLDR: A 5 point scale that allows for lots of love!! 10 is a Favourite. 9 means I loved it, 2 means I did not love it. Odd numbers are considered "exceptions" in order to give some value to the whole scale MAL provides.
10 - A favourite. Either it taught me something about my self, affected my preferences in a profound way, or exemplifies something I adore. My love and adoration is absolute.
9 - 5/5. Usually technical masterworks that give me a sense of fear that says "there will never be anything like this ever again". Emotions that were brought about were high.
8 - 4/5. Loved it. Just clear cut enjoyed everything that was at play. Can it be replicated? Sure. I implore that it is. Upon transfer to a 5-point scale, they could easily turn into a 5/5.
7 - An exception where highs and lows are in conflict, either from being in the right mind set or in the right place. While I can easily roll the score into a 4/5 or 3/5, its here because the 7 is there and uses as an easy identifier.
6 - 3/5. Your 8/10 if I were to sound like an ass. My affection and joy for it is genuine. While flaws may arise during discussions, they feel minuscule and my perception remains positive.
5 - A exception where it's definitely 2/5 (4/10), but there is a factor (either internal to the work or external) that brings up a feeling of reverence that can make it a 3/5. Again, just using this number to help identify a difference and because I can't leave 5 hanging in the wind!
4 - 2/5. Your 7/10 depending on who you are. I am glad to have seen it. Components and sections lead to a clear vision that made it memorable in a broad sense. However no lasting impact or impression was made causing me to easily forget or dismiss large or granular portions.
3 - An exception where there were elements that made me hopeful for what could be and what could be learned, making for an interesting experience. Rolling them into the above of below is an easy feat.
2 - 1/5. I did not like it. Sure there's stuff that I won't knock against, enjoyed, found curious, or will defend. But man, either there was severe disappointment, or my confusion was wild.
1 - An exception where I felt offended as a viewer??? Like I was wronged and disrespected??? It's a 1/5 where there is a profound amount of confusion. I'm also kinda glad I watched it because maybe I was taught what I love about other entertainment or elements.
Some of my friends, and other dumb asses who care, have been asking me what's up with my scores and how I talk about anime related them seems to be disproportionate. I'm putting a list of descriptions of what my scores mean, but keeping it off the main page so it's not in your face. The philosophy behind this is that I prefer a 5-Star scale. A 10 point scale is too granular, especially since people in general don't / can't think about why they don't like something that specifically. The difference between a 7 and 8 seems to be easy for most people to identify but a 6 and a 5 (or even a 4) is never clear cut. It also doesn't help that MAL has self descriptors for each score, making people not want to admit they wasted their time. Ergo, my scale is to allow for more love while making it quick and easy to recognize how much I loved an anime (as opposed to how much I hated it).

Spring 2019
The Anime season of Spring 2019 is not too exciting for me, since there isn’t much to mention. I was cautious with what I wanted to watch during this season, cause I also had my very first holiday to Japan planned during the same time. With Crunchyroll not available in Japan and being dependant on subtitles, I knew I was gonna get behind on a lot of Anime and had to catch up when I get back… Even when typing this blog, I have yet to catch up completely and Summer season is right around the corner as well.
Let's get into my Spring 2019 season!
This season for me contained 6 new Anime, 2 Sequels and 4 continuing series. I will cover both the new Anime and the Sequels.
Favorite new Anime of Spring 2019

1. Kimetsu no Yaiba
Kimetsu no Yaiba, or Demon Slayer was by far the most anticipated Anime for Spring for me. A coworker was speaking very highly of the Manga, I decided to check it out and it looked really promising. After reading up on it and seeing it is getting done by studio Ufotable, the hype couldn’t be more real for me. While I absolutely love the combination of animation styles, I actually really adore the characters and love the story. The brother/sister relationship between Tanjirou and Nezuko really moves my heart, especially with the fact that Tanjirou’s family was brutally attacked and murdered by a demon, leaving Nezuko to be turned into a demon herself. So far (episode 10), the story is going into a pretty great direction and some of the fight scenes were so damn amazing. Opening theme is pretty dope!

2. Fruits Basket
Fruits Basket, a remake of an Anime that is almost 2 decades old. I knew about the 2001 adaptation of the Manga, but never watched it and this was a perfect opportunity to watch the remake, due to it following the manga completely.
I am really loving it and I have to be honest that it’s the characters that makes this so amazing. Tohru is your typical airhead which makes for very funny scenes, then there’s Yuki and Kyo, their fighting and not getting along really delivered some great scenes. But it’s strong point for me, is the plot itself. I really like the mysterious vibes this Anime gives me. The souma family is a mysterious family and the more we progress in the Anime, the more my curiosity grows on what they want to use Tohru for. Sound is great, really delivers for the emotional scenes.

3. Isekai Quartet
Not much to say other than, the ultimate Anime crossover. I really love Konosuba, Overlord & Re:Zero (Sorry, I have yet to see Youjo Senki) and to think they would all end up in a crossover Anime, is like a dream come true. I am not a huge fan of chibi-form characters, but the interactions between the characters from different franchises makes up for it so much. With a season 2 already announced, I can’t wait for more!

4. Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san
What do one need after a hard day at work? A meal? A bath? Or perhaps Senko-san? Even to me, Senko-san was a perfect watch after a day of work to just relax and chill. The Anime itself isn’t overly exciting, many might say it’s a bit dull and repetitive but for me, it definitely made me feel pretty good. Opening theme is really catchy.

5. Shoumetu Toshi
As of this right moment, I can’t really tell much about this entry. I will edit this once I have watched the rest as I have only watched 3 episodes.

6. Fairy Gone
Sadly, victim of everything I had to catch up on. It was getting to the point where I needed to decide if I was going to drop any Anime after my return from Japan. Fairy Gone was sadly the one that had to go.
Personally, I looked forward to this. PA Works originals have always done well with me and I was pretty hyped. However, I thought the story wasn’t going anywhere, rather it felt all over the place, which is the main reason why I dropped it. The CGI used for the animation didn’t help either. I didn’t like it.

1. Shingeki no Kyojin Season 3 Part 2
Continuation of season 3 of Shingeki no Kyojin and to me the best season so far in the franchise. The animation is still as expected from Wit Studio and this second half of season 3 had bad-ass moments, one after another. From Levi destroying the Beast Titan to Erwin sacrificing himself and the scouts so they could be victorious. This arc has cleared up so much and gave us so much information about the titans and the wielders of the special titans. In my opinion, it doesn’t get any better than this.

2. One Punch Man 2nd Season
Now this was tough. I won't complain too much about the Animation and Art-Style. Two words: Simply Disappointing. Wait, this sounds familiar? It’s the same thing I wrote about the 3rd season of Date a Live. Either way, the same goes for One Punch Man S2. Also done by JC Staff (Ironically), this has been a bit of a disappointment. Comparing to what Madhouse gave us in the first season, this just lacks solid animation. I still like the characters and story a lot. Opening is LIT though!

The villain of the 2nd season of One Punch Man! I am not often fan of a villain, but I really like Garou and his voice is so good.

Nezuko Kamado
Once an innocent human girl, now a powerful demon. Nezuko Kamado is Tanjirou’s little sister and up to now the best character of the Anime. Besides helping Tanjirou slaying demons, she is so damn adorable for a demon. Just so precious.

Tanjirou Kamado
Really like the growth of Tanjirou, with his impressive sense of smell and being trained by Urokodaki. He’s definitely the character to cheer on as he slays demons and looks for a way to make Nezuko, his little sister, human again.

Senko-San
The only thing you need after a long day of work, pampering from Senko-san. A fox demi-god of 800 years old who’s a great cook and adorably sounding when she’s flustered.
