I know I know... I complain too much about different anime's. It's just sometimes I just kinda want to put it out there.
So about a week or two ago I started watching Guilty Crown. Going in I didn't know about it being notorious for being trope galore.
I then began to realize it was full of tropes, but I dealt with it because I wanted to enjoy the visuals, voice acting, and of course the first intro. At the time the tropes were bearable as well.
I've gotten to about the second half and god is it AWFUL. I know it was bad from the start but now it's become nearly unbearable. Occasionally there are some okay scenes but they are vastly outnumbered by the horrible scenes.
They also changed the intro, (which I loved), and now the only reason I'm continuing is the voice acting and the visuals but those can't save an anime.
You may argue that it kinda worked for SAO but even though SAO was bad it was still enjoyable most of the time. SAO is one of those shows that is so bad that it's good.
I don't really know if I'm going to drop Guilty Crown or not but I'm leaning toward dropping it.

Fushigi Yuugi: Episode 2
I feel like giving this anime an 8 already.
One problem I have with it is that all it makes me want to do is watch Inuyasha and Kodocha again... I miss 90s aesthetics. I missed 90s art after I watched Utena, but even more so now, especially because Fushigi Yuugi is basically a mix of Inuyasha and Kodocha to be anyway.
I wonder how much of this anime I can actually end up watching today. My goal is to at least get to episode 10 by today and then actually do productive stuff (maybe)
Huh. I find it interesting that on MAL, Fushigi Yuugi is considered a shoujo and Inuyasha is not... They're basically the same anime. I haven't really watched all of Inuyasha, and I ended up watching them out of order, but... I mean, I watched most of it (I think; either way I'm planning on rewatchng it one day too)
Tbh I'm trying to figure out what's so different between the two, I've got almost nothing so far... Fushigi Yuugi has no animals?
~
Okay, no. I feel like this anime is just going to be shit.

PLEASE NEED EXPLANATION!!! SOO SHOCKED AND CONFUSED BEYOND COMPREHENSION!
Alright so here's what I'm troubled about! I need people who watched Utawarerumono (Season 1) and Utawarerumono Itsuwari no Kamen (Season 2) to explain the background story of Kuon. The girl from the second season who calls herself the guardian of Haku the main character. I thought that in season 1, it was Hakuoro who liked Eruruu and vice versa. Being shown at the end on season 1, a kissing scene between the both of them. Now I'm only on episode 6 of the second season but I figured out that Kuon was the daughter of Hakuoro and Eruruu but so I thought!!! Until I went to confirm if I was right, it said that she was the daughter of Yuzuha and Hakuoro. I didn't remember at first who Yuzuha was and thought it was the last name of Eruruu and Aruruu but I was wrong. And there it shocked me!! Yuzuha was the girl who was blind due to a sickness!!! First of all, when did it show that Hakuoro was intrested in Yuzuha and second, wasn't Yuzuha like in her pre-teens or somewhat the same age on Aruruu!!?? WTF happened!!! This is crazy and I need some sort of explanation!!! There seems to be a misunderstanding on my side, hopefully!?? PLEASE CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN THIS!! I don't have it in me to continue until I get the truth lol!! Thanks in advance!!

Five More New Shows from My "Hopeless" List
My surprise pleasure at the first episode of Youjo Senki lead me to try out another handful of new anime from my “hopeless” list. Granted, my expectations weren't very high, but I did find some more watchable shows.
BTW – My initial rating for “Youjo Senki” is B.
“Spirit Pact” is a Chinese/Japanese co-production that is based upon a Chinese web manga. A 20-something fortune teller is killed in an odd accident and because of his spiritual powers he is offered the chance to be a ghost partner to a spirit hunter. The first episode has a lot of very loud yelling by the protagonist, and some so-so humour, but it wasn't as bad as it could be, so I'm going to try out a second episode just in case it finds a way to be consistently entertaining. Initial rating: C.
“Hand Shakers” is a psychic powers fighting story about a teen who is good at repairing things who gets paired up with a mysterious girl and must fight psychic battles without knowing why. The concept is well worn but the implementation and visuals in the first episode make up for that. I'll stick around a bit to see if it can go any new directions. Initial rating: C+.
“elDLIVE” is a shounen science fantasy about a middle schooler who gets recruited by the Space Police and finds out that he has an ancient and rare alien living on him. There wasn't anything special going on here so I won't bother with more. Final rating: C-.
“Chain Chronicle” is a game adaptation that looks and feels like an MMORG. The first episode starts right out with a massive attack by an allied force on an evil king's fortress. Unfortunately, the Evil King is too strong, the Allies and their Heroic Leader are defeated, and they then have to ignominiously retreat across an increasingly hostile countryside. The first episode was competently done but I'm not sure if the writers can do anything unique with this setup. Never-the-less, I'll stick around a bit to see where it goes. Initial rating: C+.
“Akiba's Trip” is an old fashioned low-brow comedy about an otaku who becomes involved with fighting an alien invasion of Akihabara in which various people in Akihabara, mainly pretty girls, are taken over by evil aliens. The only way to defeat the aliens and drive them out of their victims is to strip the victims in the open air, preferably outside in the sunlight. Yes, this is a show with absolutely no pretensions of being anything but dumb fun, and it does that quite well in the first episode. I'm definitely sticking around to see more Evil Aliens be “defeated”. Initial rating: B+

K-ON!! Episode 4 analysis
Welcome everyone to this analysis for K-On!!, where I basically explain everything that happens in each episode and then say why it's great. Great would usually be the word, but K-On!! episode 4 is beyond great, and is the first sign I got to notify me that I was watching a masterpiece. This episode shows our 4 seniors on their class trip to Kyoto, and it contains some of the funniest antics, and more importantly, most realistic portrayal of friendship from the show yet, getting us that much further attached to the friendship the girls share. Anyone who has gone on a school trip with their friends should be able to relate to this experience in some way, making it even more realistic. Even better is that Sawa-chan is starting to come out of her shell a bit due to a push from the girls. Season 2 develops Sawa-chan greatly, and this is the start of that. I won't keep hyping it up though, and instead will start. Please enjoy this at least half as much as the episode itself.
The first scene is 30 seconds and is funny, but doesn't provide much other than a cute scene misleading us to think that Yui is preparing for her trip when it's actually Ui. The important stuff is after the OP, where we see our seniors having fun on the bus. Yui shares snacks and Ritsu has her feet on the seat. Mio tries to tell them to have manners, but they don't listen. They decide to take a picture on the bus, and Sawa-chan tries to stop them, but can't resist when Ritsu asks her to join and she appears in the picture. Sawa-chan seems to be disheartened at the fact that she couldn't resist and keep up her "good teacher" image, muttering "Don't Worry. You can still keep it up" in a dark area.
I really like this next shot, which focuses on Nodoka's group while the seniors are talking. Nodoka and her friends are playing cards, are generally quiet, and seem to be getting along. This is juxtaposed with Yui being loud and acting like a kid talking about a rice ball. It goes to show us how much more tight knit the girls are compared to Nodoka and her friends, who seem to get along and like normal people. Anyway, Ritsu also acts like a kid, telling Yui the "real" correct way to eat a rice ball and begging Mio to take a picture of them by Mt. Fuji. This leads to a short flashback where Mio is disappointed when Nodoka can't be in their group because only 4 are allowed per group. Nodoka asks Mio to take care of Yui but Mio didn't realize that Ritsu is just as much of a handful, and she stares at Nodoka as if to beg for help. Nodoka can sense this, but doesn't react.
Finally, they arrive in Kyoto, and Ritsu suggests playing a game where everyone try to talk in a Kansai accent while in Kyoto for as long as possible. Ritsu hilariously doesn't seem to know how to do an accent, and instead tries to imitate it by saying "yade" at the end of every sentence. Yui is excited to play along but Mio is dreading it. We next get a fun little scene where Ritsu and Mio are talking, and when Sawa-chan moves we find that Yui is sleeping during the briefing. Finally, the trip starts, or at least that's what we're lead to believe due to Yui pointing out a building and asking Ritsu what it is. This is subverted when Sawa-chan instead asks them to board another bus. As they sit, Yui says she's tired, and when Mio says that all Yui's done is eat and sleep, Yui hilariously pulls out another bag of snacks and says "I'll eat this next."
Now for real this time, the trip has begun. The girls run to look at a cool golden structure, and when Yui asks about it Ritsu tries to continue the game of adding "yade" to the end of each sentence. As expected of Ritsu though, she gets sick of it quickly and stops. Mugi then gives the girls specific information about this structure and everyone is impressed. Next, the girls go to drink green tea and Mio points out that it's no different from what they always do. They try the tea anyway though, and Mugi instructs them on the proper way to drink it. Mio says that Ritsu and Yui could learn some high class manners, but they play it off as a joke and say things like "yes dear" to pretend to be proper. I practically lost it here when Yui told Ritsu to "not be a glutton" and "show some class". Ritsu was also disappointed to hear this from Yui, who was eating non-stop on the bus.
What I like about all of these interactions is simply how genuine they feel. I could totally see high school girls joking and responding in the exact same way, and it adds some realism to the trip and the girls relationships.
The next stop is a shrine filled with cow statues. The girls meet with Nodoka here, who tells them that people go to rub the cow statues when preparing for college entrance exams because it makes you smarter. Not only is this a very subtle way to introduce the concept of the girls eventually having to apply for college, but it leads to a hilarious shot of Yui and Ritsu practically hugging the cows in hopes of getting smarter. Nodoka notes that doing that may give them bad luck, which turns out to be somewhat true when Sawa-chan scolds them.
The girls go to hang "ema" with their wishes on them at the shrine, but they are loud and annoying, which gets Sawa-chan mad (also note that it's funny to see Sawa-chan getting a match-making ema). Sawa scolds the girls, and we get to see what they wished for. Ritsu wishes to go to budokan, Mio and Mugi wish to get into college, and I once again lost it when Yui wished for a "full tummy for life."
Finally, the first day is over and the girls are in a hotel room. The important thing here is that Mugi checks the pillows in the closet and seems as if she has some kind of plan, which the others only vaguely catch on to. They decide to play a board game that Mugi brought and Yui brings out snacks. Mio warns them that dinner is soon but Yui and Ritsu promise to eat their whole dinner. This is followed by a well-timed comedic quick cut to dinner, where Yui and Ritsu are "taking a break" from eating because they are stuffed.
This leads into a genuine and realistic interaction between two pairs. Mio and Mugi comment on each others hair and talk about how they take care of it, which is a thing I can totally see high school girls talking about in that way. This causes Ritsu to ask if she should grow out her hair to look more feminine, which causes Yui to laugh uncontrollably as she fantasizes about something. She can't hide it tough, and Ritsu and Yui horseplay. As they're drying up, Yui continues the joke by asking Ritsu if she wants to grow taller too, which makes Ritsu upset but determined. These interactions are the most genuine, realistic, and well written portrayals of friendship between 4 high school girls, and once again it gets me more invested in this friendship. I know that I keep bringing up this same point, but I really feel that it's important to note how great this is at making me care about these girls friendship. I couldn't care about it as much if it didn't feel genuine and realistic, and the writer did a fantastic job of making me care.
All of this awesomeness continues into the next few scenes, which are some of my favorites from the whole series. Mio is about to turn off the light, but Mugi looks ready as she puts her plan into action. She flings a pillow at Yui, who falls over from the hit. Mugi then hits Mio, and we begin a playful and fun pillow fight for a bit. I'm a guy, but even I've done similar things with pillow fights on trips like this. Watching this scene hit home even further to me how real and genuine these girls friendship is. It also tells us that Mugi hasn't been able to have the luxury of having a pillow fight before because of how she planned it out. Of course, the writing continues to shine here when Ritsu tries to hit Mugi with a pillow but hits Sawa-chan instead, and the music stops suddenly as it hits her. The girls all immediately pretend to sleep, but Sawa steps on Ritsu's back to turn off the light and yells at them to go to sleep.
Sawa has finally left the room, but Ritsu isn't done yet and asks Mugi to continue, which she happily does to Mio's dismay. This leads to my other favorite scene from this episode, which is one of the most relatable friend moments I've ever seen.
Just like Ritsu in this group, my group of close friends contains a jokester, and I bet most peoples groups have one too. Of course, the jokester always tries to be funny, but for some reason everything they say is funnier when you're tired. I've had many moments when I would try to go to sleep with my friends, and the jokester would just say a bunch of random words, and we would all find it hilarious because we were tired and trying to sleep. Oftentimes, these random words would turn into inside jokes which we would say at random and laugh hysterically, or all laugh at once when it came up from someone else who wasn't in on the joke. I'm sure most close friend groups have had a similar experience, and this is exactly what we see here.
The girls are finally done playing around, and are trying to get to sleep. Mio is happy and turns the light mostly off. Yui says she wants the nightlight off, so Mio reluctantly turns it off. Here, Ritsu starts saying some random words. "Skull" is first, and Yui and Mugi start giggling uncontrollably, though Mio is mad because she can't sleep. Next, Ritsu says "Lycopene" and Yui and Mugi continue to laugh at this totally random and irrelevant word. Ritsu says it again, but spreads it out this time, causing them to laugh even harder. Mugi laughs so hard that she snorts, which causes them to laugh even harder. Mio is mad right now, but we'll see how she feels about this a bit later. We end with Yui laughing so hard that she starts to cough, and they finally get to sleep before their second day.
Finally, the second day of the trip begins, and of course it starts with Yui and Ritsu trying to avoid Sawa's briefing, which they can't. The girls submitted a schedule of where they plan to go on their free day, but Yui and Ritsu look into a music store. Mio tries to pull them away, but gets sucked into it when she sees they sell lefty guitars. Finally, the girls get to their scheduled destination, but are once again side tracked when Yui and Ritsu run to a monkey park and Mio and Mugi have to chase them. They get to the park, but Mio is surprised by the pretty view. Mugi then asks to feed the monkeys. At first she is too scared, but when Yui shows that it isn't scary and the monkeys don't hurt you, Mugi does it with no problem and is extremely happy.
The girls then hit a souvenir shop, and decide to buy stuff. The want to get something for Azunyan, who had to be left behind for this senior class trip. We find out what the gift is next episode, but just know that it's really cute and heartwarming, and plays into one of the symbols the series has been using. Finally, they are out of time and try to return to the hotel but get lost on the way back. Yui gets distracted for a bit playing with a dog, and Ritsu asks for directions in a kansai accent. She gets directions, and her and Yui are ecstatic to see that the lady understood her accent. Of course, the directions don't help and they're still lost.
Yui calls someone on her phone and the others get excited. This is shot down when Yui idiotically called Azunyan for directions when she has never been to Kyoto. Yui hangs up quickly and awkwardly. They meet up with Nodoka's group and are excited to be saved, only to find that they are lost too. The two groups attempt to find their way back but end up in the same place. While Nodoka looks at the map again, Ritsu randomly says "skull" and I totally lost it when Mio started laughing uncontrollably. If stuff like this doesn't define true friendship, then I don't know what does.
Finally, the girls make it back in time for dinner. The seniors are eating with Sawa-chan, who tells them to not give her more things to worry about. Yui says "We're sorry, dosu" which causes Mio to once again laugh uncontrollably. Ritsu continues this by adding "dosu" to the end of two more sentences and Mio completely loses it in a rage of intense laughter, so much so that everyone in the dining hall stares at her. I really can't stress how much I love all of this inside joke stuff. They make some moments endlessly endearing and relatable, and as I've been saying it makes this friendship seem more real and personal to both me and the characters.
This next short scene is kind of subtle in how casual it seems and in the characters reactions, but it tells us an important detail about Sawa-chan. Two girls are at the vending machine and Sawa tells them to go to their rooms. They do and say "Good night Sawa-chan sensei." Sawa seems taken aback somewhat, but it's a slight movement and only somewhat surprised face. The other teacher on the trip didn't seem to make much of it, but Sawa seems defensive when she says "but we still need to work tonight." As the girls are about to go to sleep, Ritsu messes with Mio, but Sawa came prepared and stops them before they stay up all night this time. Ritsu messes with Sawa for a bit, and Yui and Mugi invite her to chat with them. She refuses at first, but can't resist a bribe of snacks from Mugi, though Yui and Ritsu regret inviting her after she won't shut up.
Finally, the girls try to sleep. Yui gets a melancholic moment where she starts thinking a bit about how time flew and that they are already seniors. She realizes that she will have to leave the LMC next year, and says how she wanted their group to stay a band for much longer. She falls asleep before she could finish her thought though, and the other teacher suddenly bursts into their room to wake up Sawa-chan, who was still in the room sleeping with the girls. Even with the joke, Yui's bittersweet realization rings true. While she hasn't realized it fully yet, mostly cause she's really tired, it is in her head that she won't be able to be with the others for much longer, revealing the true narrative of this season.
To end this off, the girls are on the bus back home. Upon passing Mt. Fuji again, the girls stand up to look at the mountain. Mio gets excited too, but drops a bag of snacks in the same way Yui did at the beginnng of this episode. Yui notes that she did this before and they all start laughing as Sawa is sleeping on the shoulder of the other teacher. It's a cute and endearing friendship moment to end off this episode, especially after the melancholic moment right before.
I'll be honest and say that not much happened in the way of character or narrative progression, though we start to see Sawa-chan come out of her shell as a result of the girls and see how others latch on to this. The true nature of the second season is revealed also, when Yui first realizes that her time with the LMC is short. What this episode mostly served to do though is provide us with some truly relatable friendship moments to fully invest us into the idea that these girls are extremely close friends, making us care about their relationships more deeply. This idea continues into episode 5, which takes place at the same time as this episode but shows what Azusa is doing during this time. It gives us some insight into how she thinks of the group, and how her relationship with the seniors is different from her relationship with Ui and Jun.
Anyway, thanks for reading as usual. Please be sure to give me feedback and spread this blog to anyone who might benefit from it. I'll see you next time.
