Lugal-Kitun
Lugal-Kitun
Last King of Uruk
Class: Caster
Alternative Classes: None
Gender: Female
Height: 150 cm
Weight: 46 kg
Alignment: Neutral Good
Strength: D+
Endurance: E+
Agility: B
Mana: A++
Luck: D
Personality:
Lugal-Kitun is, rather surprisingly and in contrast to her predecessor, humble and empathetic. She is a gentle woman with a fine understanding of detail in both form and mind. She exudes an air of nobility about her, and her actions and mannerisms are all prim and proper. Her diction is flowery and somewhat archaic, indicating a tendency to favor things that are grandiose. Lugal-Kitun is a person hardened by war and thus is capable of entering into a mindset most acclimated for battle, but as a person she is quite emotional. She is a capricious romantic, and greatly cherishes all that is related to love. In addition, she is rather compassionate and has a distinct sense of justice, especially towards those who are weaker than her. She is somewhat idealistic, and is easily moved by grand tales or tragedy.
Class Skills:
Item Construction: The skill to manufacture magical items.
-C: Lugal-Kitun is capable of creating powerful healing potions and protective talismans that call upon the favor of spirits and elementals.
Territory Creation: The skill to build a special terrain that is advantageous to oneself as a magus.
B: Creation of a 'Workshop' becomes possible. Lugal-Kitun was never trained in the rituals to set up a proper auspicious territory in the ways of ancient Sumer. Her self-taught knowledge, incomplete as it is, is enough to establish a territory equivalent to a modern magus' workshop.
E: Leadership skills are high, but the morale of troops decreases extremely. Despite leading Uruk to peace and prosperity, the citizenry turned their back on Lugal-Kitun for failing to live up to their impossible expectations of a 'new Gilgamesh'.
High-Speed Divine Words: The power to activate Thaumaturgy without the use of Magic Circuits. The language of the Age of Gods, back when words played a heavy role in spellcasting. As such, it is power long lost by modern magi.
C: Line counts for all spells are halved. Single verse spells can be cast at the speed of Single-Action spells.
Independent Action: The ability to remain independent even when rejecting the Magical Energy supply from the Master. At the higher ranks, it is also possible to remain for extended periods of time in this world without an established contract.
A++: Lugal-Kitun can remain in this world indefinitely even without a Master and even activate her Noble Phantasm's final ceremony at least once. Multiple uses will inevitably deplete her plentiful prana reserves.

Personal Skills:
Charisma: The natural talent to command an army. Increases the ability of allies during group battles. A rare talent.
Noble Phantasms
Akar-Kiengri- Ra
Golden Raiment of Sumer
Rank: B
Type: Anti-Unit
Range: 0
Maximum Target: 1
Akar-Kiengri-Ra is the common name given to the armor of the King of Uruk. The armor was not passed from one king to the next, however; each king had their own set of armor, which took the name Akar-Kiengri-Ra. The armor, just like the scepter of office, was the official symbol of the King of Urk when on the battlefield. While each king's version was different, they all shared a common inspiration: the sublime golden armor of the greatest of kings; the incomparable Gilgamesh.
Lugal-Kitun's armor abandoned most of its defensive purposes to make it as light as possible and thus maximize her speed and agility in combat. It consist of an awkward looking breastplate that protects her shoulders and upper arms, as well as the underside of her breasts to the end of her sternum. She also wears gauntlets seamlessly connected to vambraces.

[Anime] Mahoraba: Heartful days

My Manga Experiences
Intro (see bottom for how/why I came up with the idea for this blog) :
Alright. So lately I've realized that anime/manga have taken a backseat in my life... well, anime specifically but manga? Heh, it's rare that I'll take the time to read a majority of chapters, let alone take the time to record the experiences in a timely manner.
Put simply, I'm creating this new blog entry as an excuse to, hopefully, tap more deeply into an area I consciously avoid by approaching entries how I initially did with anime - selectively choosing obscure titles. I'll soon branch out and pick more popular titles most assuredly but, by starting out my manga chronicling more actively, I hope to stir interest in my anime viewing... well, just stoke those fires really.
For the sake of necessitating easy blog updating and easy reading, the structure of this blog will look into developments I find intriguing on a chapter-to-chapter basis (if a series of chapters pace well into another then I comment on collective chapters).
I will also give a Volume summary of and give an Overall rating of the series based on 3 criteria:
I. Art
II. Story
III. "Flow" , or Enjoyment
Following the concluding volume of the manga, I will have some Final Thoughts about the entry's highlights, my favorite moments, my gripes, nitpicking... and then my concluding score.
Throughout my volume-to-volume summaries, I will make comparisons to titles (both prior to and succeeding this manga's publishing history) so as to provide readers means to relate with, and possibly garner interest in, whatever I am reading.
I say this now because, following my Final Thoughts of the entire manga I will also include Recommended Titles that largely follow the entry's narrative.
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Entry #1: Hoshin Engi
I selected this is as my first because, because the very nature of this title remind me of my first experiences of anime: shonen. And while I now know that shonen indeed makes up most of every popular anime, I wanted to pick a Shonen Jump title that is also non-sports related, features an unorthodox setup (in this case, a spin on classical epic narrative) and, most importantly, have it be obscure.
The last part will allow me to wholeheartedly venture into this series since the mangaka is someone I barely know or care about, the anime adaption is made by a lackluster studio (further compelling me to try the book format first) and because, quite frankly, as far as obscure shonen go, it's pretty short.
Basically, this title was selected as a form of "baby step" to ensure that my first exercise in this blog won't be left unfinished. XD

William Tell
William Tell
First Confederate of Switzerland
Class: Archer
Alternative Classes: Assassin
Gender: Male
Height: 182 cm
Weight: 66 kg
Alignment: Neutral Good
Strength: C
Endurance: C
Agility: B
Mana: D
Luck: C
Personality:
At first glance, William Tell is a kind and gentle man. He is helpful to most and protective of innocents. He has a particular soft spot for children, which ranges from babies to young teenagers. It is unlikely he could ever overlook protecting one of them if one was to be caught in the crossfire. This leads to some distress when he encounters Master of an age he believes is inappropriate for combat. However, he also respects the choices they have made, and will not hesitate in battle against them.
If William has an opinion on something, he makes it known. He is a terrible liar and can never conceal his feelings on a matter. It is likely that many of his enemies would be able to read him like a book if given the time to do so. The best way to get around this would be to not interact with his foes, but in a war such as this, it cannot be a tactic he follows all the time.
So long as his Master has honor, William Tell shall remain a loyal Servant. He would only try to act fully against them if they proved evil at heart. He does have great pride, however, which leads to some conflicts between his Master trying to order him around. Much of this depends on just who his Master is and what is to happen between them.
He possesses horrible compatibility with people like Kayneth and Tokiomi, as they remind him too much of the wealthy aristocrats he fought against in life.
His wish is to save the child that drowned alongside him in the Schächenbach river. Though he does not regret his own death, he hates that he could not save that boy's life. It is not only painful when he thinks of the child in place of his son, but also a blow to his pride as the one task he could not complete. It may not seem like much compared to some wishes, but it is the reason William Tell answered the Grail's call.

Digimon Tamers: The Hypnos Arc
Also posted in my blog:
https://allcoloursdotorg.wordpress.com/2015/09/17/digimon-tamers-the-hypnos-arc/
The D-Reaper is where it’s at. It’s a personification of death in a children’s show. After the disappointment of the first Digimon Adventure, I just hoped this will be good enough until that arrives. I did not expect it to be this subversive, well-written and exciting early on.
The original Digimon Adventure was very basic. It was all about becoming more powerful to defeat a senseless enemy that wants to destroy in order to destroy. They somehow managed to drag it for 50 episodes. It’s a remarkable achievement for such a thin premise where even the action is unexciting. Throughout the first arc, Tamers constantly questions it.
We get Villains of the Weak whose sole purpose is to be defeated, but they are not the center. It’s Yamaki and Impmon – two characters closer to being antagonists – that define this series.
Yamaki is first seen as an evil, detatched Government Agent who wants to destroy Digimon because he’s cruel and wears a suit. Very early though, it’s shown he’s more than that. Yamaki is not villainous. He’s a person in need of control, but because he sees what chaos does. The Villains of the Weak wreck havoc and cause nothing but panic. It’s only logical to want to stop them.
He’s not like the kids, who got their Digimon and felt like their dream was coming true. He views things from a wider, but more detatched angle. He sees all the havoc that’s going on and doesn’t mind to hurt a few kids’ feeling if it means peace to everyone else.
But Yamaki is a person who wants control so much that this desire controls him. He tries to tighten his control more and more, moving from observing to trying to destroy to trying to eradicate all Digimon. Yet his own technology spins out of control, just like the Digimon are a technology that’s gone out of control (doesn’t it happen all the time?). Yamaki eventually breaks down and even gets a little violent. But what makes it so powerful is not because his violent reaction is cruel (it’s not), it’s because we’ve come to see Yamaki is like us when things go out of our control.
Impmon is another case. Impmon is a person who found out he doesn’t fit in society. He had his chance, but he couldn’t do it. So now he tries to live outside of it, bragging about his independence and not being a slave like all the Digimon.
He’s like that kid who made fun of you for being a slave for Pop music, when his whole existance is letting people know how special he is. Impmon doesn’t live outside of human society because he relies on their feedback. He pulls pranks and scares them for fun. Without humans to be scared of him, he’s nothing.
He’s an Antichrist Superstar, a person who couldn’t fit into society yet can’t live outside of it. Like Manson’s character, this leads to a desire for power to overcome this. Impmon can’t help but feel weak. His pranks are nothing but a nuiscance. As the series goes on, Impmon realizes how pointless his whole quest is. He’s starting to reconsider his worldview, but not his hatred for humans.
He sees the hero’s Digimon evolving defeating enemies, and he mistakes that for success. Since he has no alternative to society, all he wants is to destroy. This is developed further later in the series, but it’s hinted at early on. Impmon isn’t a buried gun that plays in the background until the series needs him. His downward spiral already beings.
These are the first of many breakdowns that this series will feature. It’s shocking at first to see it in a kid’s show. That’s why it’s brilliant, though. It creates characters and puts their worldview through challenges. Call Mushishi mature all you want because it doesn’t have fighting, but Mushishi never puts his characters through these breakdowns.
The whole idea of power, which the original Digimon and many shounen shows rely on is put into question. Digivolution is not plain getting stronger. The power it gives the Digimon is violent and destructive, and you can’t stay indifferent to it. I remember the first time I held a gun and how it felt.
Power does change people. We all think of changing our environment, but when we’re given the means to do it that’s when we start taking it more seriously. The series gives us three different viewpoints. Takato is a naive kid who, if he’s going to fight will do it for fun. Henry is a pacifist who can’t unsee the harm violence does to others, even when they’re enemies. Rika is a subversion of the Shounen hero. Ash Ketchum wanted to be Pokemon Master. So does Rika, only for Digimon. It’s a violent path to mastery.
Gargamon’s Digivolution illustrates this best. It’s a shocking episode, one that takes the first series and flips it on its head. Getting stronger, instead of solving the problem creates a worse one. Gargomon has a great design. He’s cute and cuddly, but instead of arms he got two revolver barrels. The series acknowledges these weapons were meant to hurt. How many shows question violence like this?
While these characters don’t experience the serious breakdowns of Impmon’s and Yamaki’s, their viewpoints are constantly being challenged. Henry’s pacifism, Rika’s bullying ambition and Takato’s naivety are all put under constant testing. This will get more serious as the show goes on. Already in the beginning, though, Tamers is brilliant. It makes it look so easy. You don’t need realistic art or no fighting to have a ‘mature anime’. Just continue to test your character’s worldview.
