Your Lie in April/Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso [Includes spoilers]
(I meant to post this a few days ago but better late than never!)
Your Lie in April. How do I even put this master work of art into words? Firstly, the deep themes of love, trust, and abuse were executed amazingly. I really enjoyed learning about Kousei's past piece by piece rather than all at once. Kousei Arima and Kaori Miyazono; The two main characters. I love them so, so much. I loved how Kaori inspired Kousei to play again and how Kousei had a huge impact on everyone's life-without even knowing it! All of this was so stunning, especially Kousei's path to playing the piano again. The ups and downs as his mother's ghost haunted him, and how he broke free of the ghost he had created. The art and animation were just beautiful. Everything was just stunning and beautifully colored. SO much effort and different colors were added; the creators worked really hard to make it amazing-and they succeeded! The soundtrack itself was also a work of art, and I have to call some of the OST's my all-time favorites. Then we have the music being played by the characters themselves. Everyone-every instrument playing character-put so much emotion and devotion into everything they played, and they took the viewer on a journey through their songs. It even made me jealous at how good everyone played. The characters-not just the main characters-are mostly relatable and fun. I enjoyed every single member of the cast and I didn't find myself strongly hating anybody. The lie: "Kaori likes Watari." The beautifully executed lie that punched Kousei in the heart, as well as most watching the show. I enjoyed the heart-wrenching love square between Kousei, Kaori, Tsubaki, and Watari. (Yes, I'm including Watari because he's an important factor into all of this) There was nearly perfect amount of flashbacks and character development to flesh everyone out. However, the one exception to this would be Watari. We don't really know much about his past, other than the fact that he likes to play soccer. If there was anything else, it didn't stick with me. I believe Watari wasn't as fleshed out as the other members of the cast. Next topic, Kaori's illness. The saddest part of the show. How Kousei was lifted from his "curse," only to have his past repeated. (I sobbed into my pillow during the last episode OML)
Overall, I believe this anime is a masterpiece. I am adding it to my top 10 list, and to my top 3 list. I rate this anime a 10/10.
What does everyone else think of this anime?
