This week its "Top 10 Romance Anime" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote #87:"It doesn't matter whether the world sees me as a boy or a girl. What truly matters is on the inside" Anime: Ouran High School Host Club Character who says the quote: Haruhi Fujioka
An anime about a girl with a bunch of guys!? Impossible! Ouran Host Club is a classic to me as it holds the right comedic fun for any viewer who just wants a smile mixed with good romance. If you go to animation conventions(especially voice acting focused) there still tends to be Ouran panels because of how popular the series still remains especially in the United States for female anime viewers. As a guy I personally really liked this show for just carrying a unique fun idea that I could get behind. Our story brings us scholarship student Haruhi Fujioka who attends Ouran Academy. Looking for a place to study as always..she manages to not only find herself in the Host Club of the school but breaks an insanely valuable vase. Haruhi must now repay a total of 80,000 dollars by pretending to be a boy in the club for females. Each of the six members choose to keep her gender a secret in order to help repay the debt. What I enjoy from Haruhi as a character is that she really upholds the idea of what a girl is REALLY like more than what a lot of animations tend to express. Right off the bat she usually has insanely messy hair and not perfectly outfitted. To me this is very realistic because...honestly? The whole "hourglass figure" for females is very off to what reality is and only creates inner depression more than self confidence. Ouran's biggest message which I respect all the way is just expressing your own beauty.
I think no matter what gender you are..what really counts is within. One thing that always annoys me to no end is how much people put down their looks. And guess what? I'm one of them! But..my belief is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We focus way too much on being attractive more than just being ourselves. I was once telling somebody who I really admire how amazing they are but constantly she would say "No I'm ugly". The thing is.. I firmly believe she is cute just thinking as her friend. I think our viewpoints on what "attractive" is has been very distorted over time due to magazines and media trying to mess with our heads about what "actual people" look like. I've worked studying news a lot so spoiler alert: The magazines you read EDIT THE BODIES. Any guy or girl who is actually that skinny believe it or not is very unhealthy. I already accepted that I want to fall in love with the heart of a princess more than care if she looks like a swim suit model. And regardless of "amazing looks" what I always care about is the heart of the person whether its romance or friendship. Gender clearly does play a part in what we are attracted to but it doesn't define how our hearts should be. Guys can like cute things! Girls can like tough things! No gender has exclusive interests.
