I went into the new working-life anime “Servant x Service” not expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised to find the first episode to be a reasonably entertaining and humorous sitcom. Three newbies join a city bureaucracy office and start out handling the public without any real training or direction. Fortunately for the newbies, the expectations of their customers are low to begin with so the newbies are able to muddle through.
The characters are reasonably endearing, the jokes work fairly well, the directions is well-paced, and the cynicism is subtle. There was nothing particularly great about the first episode, but if A-1 can keep doing the same thing with the subsequent episodes this ought to be a fair summer mind-candy anime.
