I have been watching this show too quickly so I'm going to be covering a lot of episodes at once.
This show is so cute!!! Gosh I really wasn't prepared for how cute it is.
I really enjoy how earnest Yamato and Takeo are, and how good to each other they are. They really are an ideal couple in that even though they're a little unrealistic with their expectations of the future they both respect each other and use their relationship as motivation to strive to be better versions of themselves. I can't recall having seen that in a show about young love before! I think it sets a really great tone for healthy relationships.
I don't understand why most female characters in the show are so mean though. Ai is really the only exception in that she's more aggressive with how she expresses herself, but all other young girls are depicted as being pretty cruel and petty. I don't really understand the reason for that or the message it's trying to send. At least Yamato's friends are starting to grow a little and be more compassionate but it would be really nice to have more female characters with open views of the world.
I also really like how the show sneaks in heavier topics alongside the fun stuff. Giving Suna room to express himself through his situation with his father was really powerful. I've also really liked watching Ai's attempts to deal with her unrequited feelings in a healthy way. She doesn't lash out at anyone or show any active cruelty motivated by her jealousy and that's such a healthy example for young folks! People are able to express themselves in a way that creates drama for the show without re-enforcing negative stereotypes surrounding relationships and I love that so much.
I also make really hideous laughing noises at the funny parts and that's been really fun.
